PART VIBRATION - Tap test the tool and generate a Dashboard. Using the same tool settings, tap test the part in the x and y directions, moving the accelerometer to be directly across from the hammer impact, or as close as the part will allow. Generate a Dashboard for that file. Find a stable speed, width and depth of cut that is common to both Dashboards. If the part Dashboard is all green at all speeds and depths of cut, part vibration is not an issue
SPINDLE CONDITION TRACKING - Tap-Test "Monument Tool" to baseline the spindle. Use Dashboard to program part. Periodically tap-test the same tool. If the resulting Dashboard requires reductions in the program speed or cutting depths, make a cost per cubic inch calculation vs. spindle repair cost to determine if the spindle should be serviced.
TOOL TUNING - Increase the maximum RPM on the Machine Details page by 50% over its actual maximum and generate a Dashboard. If there is a stable range above the actual maximum RPM then you may be able to bring that lobe into play by increasing the tool's stick-out or using a longer tool. Extend the tool, re-tap and generate a new Dashboard with the correct maximum RPM.
ALL GREEN DASHBOARD - If the depths of cut are conservative, the Dashboard may often be showing all green all speeds. Increase the width and depth of cut until stable speed lobes are exposed. Select a speed in the middle of a stable range.
If you tap test a lot of tools, it will ease pressure on your back by being able to see the tap results in this Vufine viewfinder that attaches to your safety or prescription glasses. It connects to your computer with a HDMI cable and mirrors its screen. While the image is very small, it will clearly show under and over, as well as, double hits.
The Surface Go and Pro tablets work great with our Speedcast kit. If you don't have a bench next to the machine, you can attach the tablet to the machine enclosure with this FridgePad 2 magnetic mount.
This amplified mini-microphone is ideal for using VP-Harmonizer on the Surface Pro or Go tablets.
You can add hands-free voice commands to SpeedCast when running on Windows 10. For example, you can go through the Practice routine by saying "3" or "practice". Do the practice taps until alert is green and say "OK". Then say "4" or "measure" to start tapping the tool. Say "Coherence" or "Frequency FRF" to view accuracy of your measurements, the say "OK" to proceed to the next axis.
